The Shuttleworth Foundation is striving to create an open knowledge society, both in South Africa and around the world. It is a vision that will only be truly realised when all people are free to learn, invent, innovate and, ultimately, create their own opportunities. This 2009 Annual Report offers a glimpse into the ways in which the Foundation has been working to achieve this vision over the past 12 months.
The Shuttleworth Foundation's m4Lit (mobiles for literacy) pilot project ran in 2009, exploring whether South African teens are interested in reading stories on their mobile phones. The project concluded that there is real potential for engaging teens in reading via their mobile phones. The press release includes the project highlights and links to the full project reports.
