Description of project:

This was a request from a Science teacher (Mr. Nqcenge) of this school, to take some of his students, many of whom participated in the 2002 Khanyagula Township Expo, on a tour to the MTN Science Centre.

The Shuttleworth Foundation?s involvement:

Funding was provided for 22 learners from Bulumko High School to visit the MTN Science Centre in December last year.

Aims and objectives:

The aim of the project was to further expose and excite the learners to scientific concepts, investigations and knowledge through attending fun workshops at the MTN Science Centre.

Evaluation:

This project formed part of ad hoc applications for small amounts that the Shuttleworth Foundation considers. A full formal evaluation is not feasible. Mr Nqcenge motivated for the tour as he felt this sort of exposure is useful in encouraging further study in science. As part of an already established relationship with Mr Nqcenge, the Foundation supports the initiative taken by this teacher.
