Description of project:

The SAIME National Technology Olympiad is an annual competition run with the aim of encouraging FET learners taking mathematics and science on higher grade to pursue careers in the sciences. SAIME runs workshops as part of this project with the aim of introducing learners to the Olympiad and to engineering and other science related careers.

The Shuttleworth Foundation's involvement:

The Shuttleworth Foundation is funding learner workshops in the Limpompo Province as part of the National Technology Olympiad.

Aims and objectives:

• To popularize the choice of mathematics and science in the further education and training band.
• To inform learners abour career opportunities in the sciences.

All four of the workshops have been conducted and were well received by the learners involved.
