If you have an innovative, education-based project and are seeking funding for it, just take it to a flea market.

This is the principle behind South Africa`s second Innovation Bazaar. It is run by the Shuttleworth Foundation and will be held in Joburg on September 6.

The Innovation Bazaar is in line with Afronaut Mark Shuttleworth`s vision that 'education Is the key to unlocking the creative and intellectual potential of South Africa`s youth, allowing them to live the dream that 'anything is possible'.'

The bazaar works like a flea market, where community-based projects that will make an impact at grass-roots level are presented to prospective funders.

The projects must be involved in education, specifically in the areas of maths, science and technology.

They must either present more effective ways of spreading existing resources or create new ways of impacting on the teaching and learning of the subjects.

This year is the first time that projects from Gauteng will have an opportunity to showcase their ideas. The long-term vision is to include all the provinces and all development areas, such as health.

Of the 10 projects presented at last year`s bazaar, all received funding. A total of R1 440 912 was raised to develop the projects.

About 30 projects are expected to be showcased this year.

The deadline for submission of proposals is Thursday.
