The Shuttleworth Foundation/P4 Radio TuXlab Mega Install

Every Saturday morning since the beginning of April, the Shuttleworth Foundation Open Source team joined forces with Cape Town's P4 104.9FM radio to create an awareness of open source and promote open source activities.

The exciting culmination of this campaign was the selection of ten schools to take part in a MEGA INSTALL on 16 June.

The Shuttleworth tuXlab Crew together with SLUG (Schools Linux User Group), volunteers and the schools will tackle the challenge of installing 10 tuXlabs in one day. (That's over 210 machines).
P4 104.9FM radio will be broadcasting live from the overall winning school on 16 June.

The overall winning school will receive the official P4 radio lab and the live broadcast will take place from this school on 16 June. And the winner is....Duneside Primary School.

Become a TuXlab Volunteer

Shuttleworth TuxLab Programme for Schools

The TuXlab programme involves the setting-up of open source computer labs in schools. The programme was launched by the Shuttleworth Foundation in August 2003 to prove the effectiveness of open source software as an economical school computing solution. The Foundation believes that open source software should be the preferred choice of software for schooling in South Africa.

The TuxLab programme aims to establish 80 TuXlab centres in Western Cape schools over a period of a year and a half. The Foundation's Open Source team, together with volunteers, enthusiastic learners and teachers are well on their way to achieving this target and have successfully set up over 30 TuxLab installations in and around the Western Cape region.
