Shuttleworth TuxLab Programme for Schools

The TuXlab programme involves the setting-up of open source computer labs in schools. The programme was launched by the Shuttleworth Foundation in August 2003 to prove the effectiveness of open source software as an economical school computing solution. The Foundation believes that open source software should be the preferred choice of software for schooling in South Africa.

The TuxLab programme aims to establish 80 TuXlab centres in Western Cape schools over a period of a year and a half. The Foundation's Open Source team, together with volunteers, enthusiastic learners and teachers are well on their way to achieving this target and have successfully set up over 30 TuxLab installations in and around the Western Cape region.
